Individual Therapy

We have a poor attitude to mental health in this country. Part of it, I think, stems from that "stiff upper lip" philosophy that many of us were brought up with. I think the other part is to do with the general uncertainty about how to sort out our mental health problems.
Let's compare two health issues. If I broke my leg I would be quite happy to go along to a doctor and have proper medical treatment to fix my leg properly so I could walk, run and skip whenever I wanted to. When people asked me what was wrong I might reply " I have a broken leg".
Next health issue - also very common, depression. Now this is a mental health issue so much less likely to be treated at all. It's more likely that the sufferer would struggle along, not seeking help and let this issue affect their whole lives.
This person might say when asked "I am depressed". Look at the change in language there. We don't say "I am a broken leg" so why let mental health issues take over all of us?
There is no need to take this approach!!! Mental health issues like
depression, anger problems, stress, anxiety, loneliness and grief are normal and just as treatable as that broken leg we talked about earlier. Most people in their lives have problems that can be resolved quicker with the guidance of a therapist. Nothing to be embarrased about, you're not weak or less manly or over emotional, you are brave and wise enough to recognise you need help so you can resolve your problem and go on to live a more contented, more fulfilling life.
My part in this as your therapist would be to support, help, guide, challenge and inform. I'm there to listen carefully to your experiences and to work together with you to pull you out of the hole and back on track. This time though I would aim to have you much more aware of where those holes are for you so you are much less likely to fall in in the future.
